The Rat Association of Texas (RAT) was established in 1998 by a small group of Dallas/Fort Worth area pet rat fanciers who wanted to share their passion for these wonderfully magnificent creatures with others. RAT strives to educate about the proper care of domestic rats (and mice) as well as promote responsible ownership and breeding through knowledge, ethics and compassion. From the beginning it has been important for us to spread the word about what wonderful, loving and intelligent pets rats can be.

Since our formation, we have gained members throughout the state of Texas. The majority of our membership is based in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio and Houston areas and most are pet rat fanciers, although we do have a few mouse enthusiasts too. We are a very social group who enjoy getting together several times a year and stay in constant contact through our forum.
